Senator Istifanus Gyang (PDP, North Plateau) said he received with shocking news the death of a member of the House of Representatives, Haruna Maitala, who represented the federal constituency of Jos North / Bassa.
Maitala died alongside her son Jafaru, a security guard, and his driver on Friday in a car crash on his way from Abuja to Jos.
Gyang, in a condolence message from his special media and protocol assistant, Mr. Musa Ashoms also called Maitala’s death sad.
“The fatal car accident which cost him his life once again highlights the deplorable state of our road infrastructure, in particular the Jos-Akwanga, Jos-Barde-Keffi highway and the need for reconstruction by the federal government.
“The deceased had a gentle, regular and unpretentious personality and had good relations with his fellow legislators.
“The people of the North Plateau join the members of the Plateau caucus in the National Assembly in sympathizing with the immediate Maitala family and their constituents in the face of this devastating loss,” he said.
He prayed to God to grant him eternal rest.
