The chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across Jigawa State’s 27 local government areas have passed a vote of confidence in the party’s state chairman, Babandi Gumel, and former governor Sule Lamido, reaffirming their loyalty amid ongoing internal disputes at the national level.
The endorsement comes against the backdrop of leadership rifts within the PDP, with rival factions calling for changes in the party’s national leadership. Tensions escalated on Friday when the PDP Board of Trustees announced the suspension of Lamido over alleged anti-party activities and comments linked to the crisis.
Party leaders in Jigawa made their position known at a special meeting held on Tuesday at the PDP state secretariat in Dutse, describing the move as necessary to strengthen unity within the party at the state level.
Speaking on behalf of the chairmen, the Dutse Local Government PDP Chairman and Forum Chairman, Sa’adu Barwa, said the group remained firmly committed to the party and its leadership in Jigawa. He stressed that the chairmen would not be distracted by internal disagreements at the national level.
“We urge all members to remain calm, united and focused. The success of the PDP depends on collective effort and loyalty,” Barwa said, adding that the party would overcome its current challenges.
The Vice Chairman of the forum and Chairman of Hadejia Local Government Area, Adamu Muhd, described the declaration as a reflection of the chairmen’s loyalty. “We are committed to working with the state chairman and our national leader to ensure the success of the PDP in Jigawa State,” he said.
Muhd also called on other party members to demonstrate unity, noting that cohesion was critical to the party’s future.
Responding, PDP state chairman Babandi Gumel, represented by his deputy, Umar Danjani, thanked the chairmen for their support and pledged to continue steering the party toward electoral success in the state.
The meeting was attended by prominent PDP stakeholders, including former lawmakers and party leaders, who also expressed support for the party’s leadership in Jigawa State.
