Date:

The Jigawa State Police Command has disbursed cheques worth ₦31,450,025.16 to the families of 59 police officers who died in active service.

This was disclosed in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, and made available to NAN.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Abdullahi Dahiru, presented the cheques on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, under the Group Life Assurance (GLA) and IGP Family Welfare Scheme.

According to Dahiru, the initiative forms part of the ongoing welfare programme of the IGP aimed at providing financial relief and moral support to families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

He described the deceased officers as “heroes who laid down their lives in defense of peace, justice, and the unity of the nation,” assuring that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.

The CP urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely for the benefit of their dependents and emphasized the police leadership’s commitment to improving welfare for both serving and retired personnel.

Dahiru further noted that the Nigeria Police Force, under IGP Egbetokun’s leadership, remains dedicated to promoting discipline, accountability, and the well-being of officers and their families.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Surajo Shehu expressed gratitude to the IGP and the Jigawa Police Command for their continued compassion and support.

He pledged that the funds would be used responsibly to sustain the legacies and uphold the memories of the fallen officers.
