JUST IN…..Foreign Airline Kicks as FG Announces Closure of Abuja Airport
The Nigerian government on Monday, March 6, officially announced the closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International, Abuja.
The announcement was made by the minister of information Lai Mohammed at a World Press Conference.
Mohammed while speaking said the airport which would be closed for six weeks will be officially shut from 12 am on Wednesday, March 8.
Also speaking, the minister of state for aviation Hadi Sirika noted that observations made by the acting president Yemi Osinbajo during his visit to the airport last week will be taken care of.
Sirika said all international airlines but one has refused to use the alternative route – Kaduna Airport – approved by the federal government.
“Immediately passengers land, they will be given a form which will have three options: I need train, I need bus and I have private arrangement,” Sirika said.
“There will be staff on ground to guide in whichever option they choose,” he said.
On his part, the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris said every 2.5 kilometres in the Abuja-Kaduna expressway will be manned by police officers.
Idris said a specialized unit of the police; the counter terrorism department, dog sniffers and helicopter patrol will be deployed at all routes leading to the airport.
