JUST IN: Senator Akpabio resigns as Minority Leader

The Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio has resigned his position.

The former governor of Akwa Ibom State stated this in a letter dated August 4, 2018, thanking his colleagues from the previleged to serve in the last 3 years in the capacity.

The letter reads: “May I extend to you and dear colleagues in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senate Caucus of the 8th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria the compliments and best wishes of my constituents and I.

“This letter is to formally inform you of my resignation as the Senate Minority Leader with effect from August 4, 2018.

“Let me thank the Senate minority leadership, our distinguished colleagues and our great party, the PDP for the opportunity to lead the Caucus on the last thre years.

“Please accept the assurance of my highest esteem.”

Akpabio has been rumoured for having plan to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) over his recent meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in London. But reacting to the development, PDP said the party is not aware of such and that the Senator only said he had a technical stopover in London enroute Germany.
