Gentlemen of the press,
The Ilorin Emirate Council has observed with dismay, the criminal activities of some disgruntled elements ostensibly in Moro who have been fanning the embers of disunity and fomenting crisis among the law abiding citizens in the Emirate and beyond.
Of particular worrisome is that they are persistently engaging themselves in erecting offensive signpost with the evil intention to disintegrate the long rooted heritage of peace, harmony and cultural affinity with the Emirate. These people camouflaging as concern Moro citizen have erected with impunity juju fortifying signpost is selected locations around the main entrance and exit of Shao town and disassociating shao town and other parts of Moro Local Government from Ilorin Emirate.
In continuation of their act of aggression and lawlessness, the Moro avengers forced their ingrience with impunity into the premises of the district Head of Jebba and forcefully erected offensive signpost that the house has been taken over by them;
They are believe to be the supporters of one, ADEBARA regrettably however no effort was made by the appropriate authority to remove the signpost nor apprehend the culprits.
We want to note with concern that the intention of these faceless people is not only evil, its unconstitutional and constitute a criminal act likely to cause a breach of the public peace and order in the Emirate in particular and the state in general. This secessionist activity of dissidents if not curtailed on time by the state government and the appropriate law enforcement agents is capable of leading to large scale chaos, confusion and violence. We do not want to believe yet, as being speculated, that they enjoy the unalloyed support of some powerful people.
We want to reiterate that seven hundred and seventy four (774) local Government Areas in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and any attempt therefore by anyone or group to thinker with it as being perpetrated by these disgruntled elements is tantamount to offence of secessionists, which of course is punishable by the law.
The Ilorin Emirate Council comprising of five Local Government Areas, i.e Asa, Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Ilorin South and Moro respectively are of the same family, culture and tradition that have been living together in harmony and this accounted for the uncommon peaceful co-existence and unity among the people of Ilorin Emirate and beyond. It may interest us to know that this was the genesis of the ACRONYM –“State of Harmony” popularly enjoyed by the people of Kwara State.
The Emirate system itself came about as a result of Jihad.
In a nutshell it is a gain of Jihad fought by Usman Danfodio and which brought about Emirship stool, hence the authority of the Emir is unquestionable. This is applicable to all other hegemony, .i.e Ilorin, Kano, Sokoto, Bauchi,Kastina and Zaria to mention but a few.
If one section now comes up with a secessionist demarcation sign post supporting to segregate itself from the pool of peace and is allow to do so with impunity it may encourage a total disruption of the peace system currently being enjoyed by the Emirate and indeed Kwara State in particular. By the Ilorin Emirate system and status successful State Government found it easier to administer effectively and efficiently.
The action of pro-secessionist is also viewed as an unfortunate incident which if allowed to continue will be a bad example that may be emulated by criminally minded people to disrupt the prevailing peace and harmony in the state and to prevent this therefore and stop this malady we call on the Kwara State Government under the able leadership of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Dr. Abdul-Fatah Ahmed to wade into this matter very urgently by removing this offensive, inciting and anti-culture signpost erected in various selected locations by the Moro militants. We at this stage do not believe that this militant group of Moro is being sponsored by some powerful people within and outside the state to destabilize the state and cause confusion ahead of 2019 general election.
We are baffled and surprise of the lackadaisical attitude of the Police in handling of this volatile issue and quickly asked as follows:
- Is the Area Commander and his entire police establishment in Moro Local Government are not aware of this criminal activities of the so called Moro Avengers?
- And why doing nothing to arrest the ugly situation before it could generate to full scale crisis?
We also believe that silence may not help the situation therefore all concerned people (authority) must rise up and do the needful and necessary step to curtail this ugly situation. We do not want another militant group to spring up in Kwara State, certainly Ilorin sons and daughters will resist any attempt by person or group of persons to secede an inch of its territory achieved through Jihad to any group of person as this will be totally resisted.
Finally, let us seized this opportunity to commend the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, CON and the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed for their pragmatic efforts in making the state of harmony a better place for all and sundry and call on all good people of the state to continue to lend their unalloyed support and cooperate with the state Governor in order to bring more development, peace and harmony to the door step of all citizenry.
This press conference will not be completed without welcoming the new Police chief, Alhaji Ado Lawal to Kwara State popularly referred to as the State of Peace and Harmony and urged him to address this volatile issue which he apparently inherited from his immediate predecessor.
We assuring him of our full cooperation and support at all time.
Thanks for listening.
