The Centre for Learning and Educational Development Advocacy Africa (CLEDA Africa), said on Friday that it has trained 150 secondary school girls on fashion designing and dress making in Ikara local government area of Kaduna State.
CLEDA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Daniel Akpan, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.
Akpan said that the beneficiaries were drawn from Saulawa and Pampaida communities of the local government area.
He explained that the training, which ended on May 19, was conducted in partnership with Millennium Promise, Pampaida Nigeria, under its Sustainable Development District Project.
“The objective of the training was to empower the girl child towards self-reliance and sufficiency, to enable them remain in school.
“This is because of the high tendency of the girl child dropping out of school due to financial needs of the family.
“The training, therefore, sets out to empower these girls towards self-sufficiency and self-employment, “he said.
Akpan said that the girls have already been grouped into cooperative societies, adding that they would be given three sewing machines as start-up package.
He added that plans are underway to also train the girls on weaving.
