The All Progressive Congress (APC) Supporters Forum, Kaduna, has urged the party executive in Kaduna state to pick Mr James Kanyip as running mate to the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Uba Sani.

In a statement issued in Kaduna on Thursday, the Director-General of the group, Mr Yazid Wada, said that Kanyip would be an excellent candidate for the position of deputy governor at the moment.

Wada said Kanyip’s experience as the current Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Kaduna State, would ensure a smooth transition and continuity of the APC government.

He added that Kanyip had over the years acquired valuable experience as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and as a member of the Executive Council of the current government.

According to him, the success of the party at the polls largely depends on the choice of the right running mate that will deliver results.

He added that the first test of resolve in pursuit of excellence was the choice of the right deputy for Uba Sani.

“Going through options that have been fronted for the position of the deputy governor, Kanyip is the right choice that will market the APC in Kaduna South Senatorial Zone.

“This is largely because of his popularity, acceptability, humanitarian, and political activities in the region over the years.

“For example, Kanyip served as the elected Executive Chairman of Kaura Local Government Council in 2007 and was appointed Executive Chairman of the Interim Management Committee of the LGA in 2015.

“He was also served at different times as the Legal Adviser, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kaduna State Chapter and chairman of the association in the state,” he said.

Wada pointed out that from inception, the APC-led administration has been running a merit-driven government based on the multi-ethnic composition of appointees from different parts of the country.

He also said that el-Rufai had picked deputies in the persons of the late Barnabas Bala and Dr Hadiza Balarabe based on merit.

According to him, their support is a strong factor for the success of the El-Rufai-led administration.

“The same is expected of the coming APC government if elected. The choice of a deputy should be on merit.

“This way, the culture of excellence will be preserved.

Uba Sani candidature will win at the polls if in addition to merit, he considers inclusiveness by accommodating and embracing the multi-ethic, multi-regional and multi-religious nature of the state.

“This will eliminate imbalance in the decision-making processes in governance.” (NAN)
