Kano Assembly finally passes bill of new emirates creation into law

Published

on

The Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has finally succeeded in creating new Emirate Councils as the State House of Assembly on
Thursday passed the bill into law.

Ganduje had earlier re-submitted Kano Emirates Council Bill which seeks to break the Kano Emirates into five – Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye.

The bill was transmitted to the Assembly last Monday, was read for the
third time on Thursday morning and passed into law with minor
alteration.

Ganduje re-submitted a fresh bill after a High Court nullified emirates councils and emirs earlier established in May 2019.

In the judgement, the court ruled that due process was not followed in the creation of the earlier emirates and the appointment of emirs.

It was learnt that the bill would be forwarded to Kano State Governor Umar Ganduje for assent.
