Kebbi assembly adopts motion on emergency assistance for flood disaster victims

The Kebbi State House of Assembly, on Thursday, adopted a motion urging the State Government to provide emergency assistance to victims of flood disaster in the state.

The House adopted the motion sponsored by the member representing Bunza constituency, Alhaji Aminu Muhammad, under matters of urgent public importance.

Presenting the motion, Muhammad, said it’s important for the assembly to call the attention of the state government to provide emergency succour to the 13 communities affected by flood along Gindi River in Jega Local Government Area.

“These villages included, Sabon Birni, Gara fita, Rafin Tasiu, Tungar Bore, Loko, Bore, Gumbire, Tungan Lele, Tungar Sauna, Matseri, Sabe, Raha, and Garadi, all in Jega LGA,” he said.

Muhammad noted that houses were damaged and destroyed as a result of heavy downpour and overflow of water in the 13 villages.

“Majority of these people are farmers and their farmlands have also been greatly affected as their agricultural crops, were destroyed which if quantified and estimated, would be worth millions of naira,” he said.

Muhammad prayed the house to call on the state government to direct the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to send a team to quantify and asses the level of the destruction caused by the flood.

The motion which was seconded by the member representing Aleiro constituency, Alhaji Buhari Aleiro, was unanimously approved by the members.

The Speaker, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kamba, directed the Clerk of the house to send the resolution to the state government for implementation accordingly.
