Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State on Wednesday launched the distribution of educational materials, vehicles, and motorcycles worth N2.7 billion to public schools across the state.

The flag-off ceremony, held in Birnin Kebbi, highlighted the administration’s efforts to improve access to quality education. Governor Idris described Kebbi as both an agricultural and educational hub, affirming his commitment to making education free and accessible for all children in the state.

ā€œToday, we are witnessing the distribution of over two million copies of books to primary and secondary schools across the state. This is in line with our mission to reposition education and make it accessible to every child in Kebbi,ā€ the governor said.

The distributed materials include textbooks, exercise books, computers, motorcycles, and vehicles, all aimed at improving teaching and learning in public schools.

Governor Idris also outlined recent achievements under his administration, including the renovation and furnishing of more than 2,000 schools, the construction of mega schools across the four Emirates, and the release of N2 billion to cover registration fees for indigent students.

In addition, the governor announced the recruitment of 2,000 new teachers, as part of a larger employment initiative that has seen 5,000 professionals, including healthcare workers and legal staff, hired in the past two years.

Reiterating his support for teachers’ welfare, Idris recalled his role in pushing for the extension of teachers’ retirement age from 35 to 40 years while serving as National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), a policy his government has since implemented in Kebbi State.
