The Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KW-GIS), has served contravention notice to an illegal building owner, at Alawo junction, Akerebiata, Ilorin East Local Government Area, even as it reiterated government’s commitment to sanitizing built environment, to ensure that the set standard of building construction across the state is maintained, for the safety of mankind.

The Executive Chairman, Kwara State Geographic Information Service, ESV.Abdulkareem Babatunde Sulyman disclosed this over the weekend when the officials of the Directorate of Physical Planning And Development Control served a contravention notice, to an illegal building owner, at Alawo junction construction site, via Baba Soldier street, in Ilorin, the State Capital.

The Executive Chairman who was represented at the construction site by TPL. Abdulsalam AbdulAkeem, expressed government’s displeasure at the way and manner building regulation was flouted with irregularities, such as building on culverts corner piece, thereby obstructing vehicular movement in the area.

ESV. Sulyman confirmed that, the on going building construction is not in line with the approved permit, further construction therefore not granted by the authority concerned, and so, the building is regarded as illegal.

Addressing the press, the Chairman noted that, “the construction was an eye sore, considering the standard of materials used and the fact that the owner did not obtain proper approval.”

Sulyman however warned that, “if this was not averted at this stage of construction, the unfortunate might occur, in which the current administration has zero tolerance for building collapse. May God forbid.”

Mr Sulyman seized the opportunity to, appeal to the public, to desist from building without contacting the appropriate government officials, for professional advice before and during constructions, to ascertain the safety of lives and property in our dear State of Harmony .

He directed the owner of the building to stop work at the site with immediate effect and report to the Agency for further directives or face legal action.
