Kwara commissioner lauds NGO’s enterpreneurial education intervention
The commissioner for education, human capital development in Kwara State, Hajia Bilkisu Oniyangi, has restated the commitment of the ministry in collaboration with the Kwara State University, Malete and SMEDAN on finding ways and means of making students to be self–supportive by undergoing skill acquisition right from schools.
She stated this in Ilorin while speaking at a day summit on entrepreneurship organised by a Non-Governmental Organization, Affect Project Initiative, (API), Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, (SMEDAN) as well as the Kwara State Ministry of Education.

Oniyangi, who was represented by the Director of Curriculum and Assessment in the ministry, Alhaji A. B . Ahmed, said: “There is no denying the fact that private support in entrepreneurship development in our schools has been on–going. In the year 2016, LUBCON made a donation of entrepreneurship textbooks to all schools in the State. There has been training of students on various skills by different professional groups.
” The position of unemployment in the country has become so worrisome. Large numbers of unemployed youths are found everywhere. Graduates are turned out every year with majority of them having no place to fit–in in the employment market. Entrepreneurial development is now the panacea to this negative trend. Experiences in Asian countries, United States of America and some European Countries have shown that Nigeria has a solution in youthful skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development.”
The commissioner however maintained that, “Affect Project Initiative has always been our partner in education promotion while SMEDAN has been performing creditably well in bringing entrepreneurial development to all schools in the State.”
In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Youths Empowerment , Alhaji Sakariyau Babatunde, highlighted various measures put in place by the state towards enhancing youth empowerment and nob creation.
He however commended the convener of the event for the foresight and targets as part of intervention towards complementing government’s efforts.
The founder of Affect Project Initiative, Mr. Ajiboye Ayodeji, had earlier disclosed that, “We are here in respect of promoting entrepreneurial education among secondary school students, which has been established as a key factor imperative to a sustainable development in any country, Nigeria not an exception.
“This summit, which is put together by the affect project (a non-governmental
organisation),the ministry of education and human capital development and the small and
Medium Enterprises Development, (SMEDAN)was born out of the need to overcome numerous challenges.”
