Kwara communities in blackout, send message to Gov. AbdulRazaq

HE Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq

Residents of Ola Oluwa community in Ogidi area of Ilorin, have cried out to the state government to rescue them from perennial darkness occasioned by faulty transformer servicing three communities in the area.

Chairman of Olayeri phase II community, one of the affected community, Alhaji Abdulkharim Dende and Alhaji Baba Malu, Joint chairman of the whole community made up Alawo, Ajibesin and Olayeri made the appeal in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ilorin.

According to the chairmen, there was only one transformer providing electricity to the three communities.

According to them, the population of the three communities has grown over the years, hence the lone transformer cannot cope with the load.

The chairmen added that in January of this year, they wrote a letter to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq appealing to him to come to their aid and give them two more transformers for the area.

Alhaji Dende said in Olayeri community, there were over 5, 000 inhabitants with over 1, 500 completed houses and over 500 under one stage of completion or other.

“The old age of the existing transformer couple with the noticeable expansion of the buildings and increasing population of the area has put the three communities into constant darkness,” the statement said.

According to the chairmen, the appeal to the governor for two more transformers would cushion the effect of overloading on the only available transformer serving the three communities.

They argued that the constant power failure in the area was having a toll on the economic activities of residents of the three communities.

They added that there were many artisans living in the three communities that depended on electricity for their businesses, adding that the power outage was affecting the businesses of these artisans.

“This is why we, on behalf of the entire community are crying loudly to the Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to come to our rescue and give us transformers in our area.

“If his Excellency accede to our request, it will go a long way to re-awake the economic activities of the hitherto sleeping community as a result of the darkness we are now,” they added.

The chairmen therefore commended the governor for his commitment and strive towards alleviating standard of living of the people, particularly at the rural areas.

“We also commended the governor’s track record of achievements in all areas of human endeavours,” the chairmen said.
