In a significant step toward bridging the digital divide and empowering underserved communities, the First Lady of Kwara State, Ambassador Professor Olufolake AbdulRazaq, officially commissioned and handed over the ICT Community Center in Ilorin on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
The event, held at the Kwara State College of Education, highlighted the importance of digital skills in transforming lives and fostering equitable opportunities in Nigeria’s evolving digital landscape.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador AbdulRazaq commended the Renewed Hope Initiative, spearheaded by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
She described the project as a laudable effort to equip women and youths with vital digital skills, opening doors to local and global opportunities.
“This milestone will not only uplift the status of women, youths, and other users of this facility but will also contribute significantly to making Nigeria a digitally empowered nation,” said AbdulRazaq.
“It reflects the many engagements and partnerships of Her Excellency, Senator Tinubu, in supporting Nigerians to achieve their goals and improve livelihoods, complementing the efforts of Mr. President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Federal Government.”
The First Lady of Kwara State urged the host institution and beneficiaries to safeguard the facility while maximizing its potential to drive personal and community growth. “I encourage all users to take full advantage of the services provided here to develop themselves and promote positive causes,” she added.
Expressing gratitude to Senator Tinubu for selecting Kwara as one of the project’s beneficiaries, AbdulRazaq reiterated the state’s commitment to supporting and amplifying the advocacy efforts of the Renewed Hope Initiative across communities.
The newly commissioned ICT center is expected to serve as a hub for technological learning, providing women, youths, and other marginalized groups with tools to navigate the digital economy effectively.
