The Kwara State Government has praised MTN Nigeria for donating Lenovo learning tablets to selected public secondary schools across the state’s three senatorial districts, in a bid to support digital education.
The initiative, facilitated through the Office of the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, is part of a national effort to digitize learning in schools and promote inclusive education.
At a handover event held Friday at Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, urged beneficiaries to make effective use of the devices.
“These tablets are tools for transformation. I encourage students and school leaders to maximize their use to advance digital learning in line with global standards,” Olohungbebe said.
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake, also expressed gratitude to MTN, describing the donation as a timely intervention to enhance both teaching and learning processes.
Representing MTN Nigeria, Government Relations Officer Mr. Andy Esun said the initiative aligns with the company’s mission to expand digital access nationwide. “We’re working to ensure that no child, regardless of location, is left behind in the digital age,” he said.
Mr. Esun also acknowledged the efforts of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, noting that the administration’s dedication to education reform was instrumental in attracting the programme to Kwara.
Eight schools benefited from the donation: Government High School, Adeta; Oke-Ode Unity Secondary School, Oke-Ode; Patigi Secondary School, Patigi; Government Secondary School, Kaiama; Progressive Secondary School B, Ilorin; Government Secondary School, Omu-Aran; Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin; and Moje High School, Erinle.
The event was attended by education stakeholders, including representatives of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission.
