Kwara Monarch advocates for mechanized farming

The Emir of Shonga in the Kwara North Senatorial District, Dr Haliru Ndanusa Yahaya,  has stressed the need to embark on large scale farming to end the current economic quagmire in the country.

Speaking with ROYAL NEWS on Sunday, Dr. Haliru Yahaya described farming as one of the surest way out of recession, blaming previous administrations for the neglect of the sector that used to be the country’s pride and main foreign exchange earnings.

Dr Haliru Yahaya also charged government to tap the abundant resources in the mining and solid minerals sector to drive the country’s economy.

The Emir of Shonga who described the recession as a blessing in disguise, said it served as a wake up call on the government to look beyond over-reliance on oil and develop other sectors of the country’s economy.

He emphasized the need for all traditional rulers to mobilize and sensitize their subjects, especially the youths on the need to return to farming instead of looking for greener pastures that are no longer visible.

Dr Haliru Yahaya also asked government to support and engage farming at the grassroots by providing incentives and training for local farmers in modern farming techniques to embark on mechanized and large scale farming.
