KWEPA Officials on duty in Ilorin.

The Kwara State government has again re-affirmed its commitment to ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for citizens, through routine and thorough inspection of areas within the metropolis to ensure strict compliance with environmental rules and regulations.

The Acting General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), Hajia Idayat Folorunsho stated this during an inspection visit to some areas known for environmental violations in Ilorin. The General Manager who was represented by the KWEPA team leader, Sanitary Inspector, Nusirat Temitope Oyewole, reiterated the need for citizens to embrace hygienic lifestyles and cautioned them against harmful environmental practices.

It is on record that the State Ministry of Environment and KWEPA have been making joint efforts to curbing environmental violations. The areas contravening environmental laws include Okelele, Kilanko, Okesuna, Lajorin amongst others.

Sanitary Inspector Nusirat Oyewole further stressed that offenders should henceforth desist from all sorts of environmental offences, such as dumping of waste inside drainages, burning of refuse, illegal dumping of waste in public areas, among others, adding that failure to comply would attract strict punishment.

While addressing members of the communities, Oyewole said the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s led administration is committed to ensuring a safer and cleaner environment to prevent avoidable diseases in the State.

Meanwhile, abatement notice was served to offenders to make amends on the various offences committed and report to the KWEPA office within 24 hours.
