No fewer than 200 livestock farmers have been trained by the Kwara State Government on commercial fodder production and bull fattening techniques, the state Commissioner for Livestock Development, Mrs Oloruntoyosi Thomas has disclosed.
The Commissioner who made the disclosure at the recently concluded Quarterly Inter-ministerial Press Briefing in Ilorin, told newsmen that government is working round the clock to link dairy farmers to milk collection centres for increased market penetration.
Mrs Thomas who rolled out the Ministry’s achievements within the quarter under review, explained that the present administration is working assiduously to prevent farmer-herder clash with the ongoing geospatial mapping of transhumance routes in collaboration with Bayero University’s Centre for Dry land Agriculture.
She also spoke about strategic engagement under the Special Agro Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) project in the state as she emphasized that several capacity buildings were carried out on needs assessments, sensitization, and development of gender-friendly infrastructure plans among others.
The Commissioner further explained that the Kwara State Government under the watch of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq actively participated in the March 2025 Cadre Harmonisé Analysis to guide early warning systems and improve food and nutrition security across the State.
While appreciating the development partners including the World Bank, IFAD, Islamic Development Bank (ISDB), FAO, and African Development Bank (AfDB) for their continuous support, the Commissioner assured that the government is ready to build a resilient livestock economy that contributes meaningfully to the State’s GDP.
She therefore, called on private sector players, agripreneurs, and cooperative groups to key into the Ministry’s vision and partner in scaling these impactful interventions.
“The future of livestock in Kwara is bright. With the right partnerships and continued investment, we are confident of building a resilient livestock economy that contributes meaningfully to the State’s GDP and ensures no one is left behind,” she affirmed.
