KWARA WOMEN CHARGED TO BE POLITICALLY RELEVANT

Women in Kwara State have been charged to form a formidable team in order to be politically relevant for the growth and development of the state.

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs Alhaja Mopelola Abdulmaliq-Bashir gave this charge in Ilorin during the week when members of Kwara State Nigerian Labour Congress (Women wing) paid her a courtesy visit in her office .

The Press Secretary of the Ministry, Rabiat Salman, stated this in a statement issued on Friday.

Abdulmaliq-Bashir affirmed that “Kwara is leading the change and there is no state in Nigeria that is doing what Kwara State is doing as far as gender mainstreaming is concerned.Therefore, Women need to think beyond grudging on one another and support capable and interested women in the coming 2023 elections to occupy political offices”, she said.

The Commisioner described Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq’s gender equity stance with women forming the highest percentage in his cabinet as commendable and unprecedented.

She stressed the fact that women must work together and synergise to enable them attain greater heights politically.

Also in her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajia Afusat Nike Ibrahim appreciated the women for the courtesy visit to the Commissioner, assuring them of the Ministry’s support whenever the need arises.

Speaking on the purpose of their visit, the Chairperson of the Kwara State Nigerian Labour Congress (Women Committee), Comrade Victoria Agboola, expressed the Committee’s joy in meeting the Commissioner as well as the warm reception accorded them, which she said goes a long way to show the magnanimity of Governor AbdulRazaq led administration towards Women in Kwara State.

Agboola commended the State government for effecting the payment of the minimum wage to Kwara Workers which is a morale booster towards enhancing the productivity of civil servants.
