The Kwara State Government has once again rated all the Local Government Councils high in the execution of impactful, people oriented projects in their respective Councils, ensuring that dividends of democracy reach the grassroots.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abdullahi Abubakar Bata said this during completion of the phase one inspection of projects executed by all Local Government Councils at the Baruten and Kaiama Council Secretariats, yesterday.
The Commissioner disclosed that the Ministry has been fulfilling its cabinet responsibility by monitoring activities of Councils, expressing satisfaction over Councils performance in the provision of basic social amenities and community based interventions, which were attested to with the commendations and appreciation by the benefitting communities.
He attributed the success at the Councils to the foresight of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq who has ensured true autonomy of the Councils, “the Councils under the present administration had been repositioned and strengthened to deliver on their mandate without any interference from the State Government or any of its apparatus in the discharge of their duties”, he reiterated.
Speaking at various sites of projects executed by Baruten and Kaiama Local Government Councils, the Commissioner thanked the Executive Chairmen for prioritising the immediate needs of their constituents above their personal interests.
Hon. Bata said that being an indigene of Kwara North, he was very much aware of the neglect of the region by successive administrations both at the State and Local Government, but with the coming onboard of the present administration, the narrative has positively changed, as the people now feel the inclusiveness and essence of governance.
The Executive Chairman of Kaiama, who is also the ALGON Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi disclosed that they have all resolved to justify the confidence of their constituents to not only justify the confidence reposed on them but also surpass all their predecessors in providing good governance at the Councils to complement the achievements of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON).
The ALGON Boss thanked the Executive Governor for his prompt intervention and restoration of relative peace across the Councils in the face of the recent surge of security challenges as a result of the influx of criminal elements from neighbouring countries and States.
Hon. Danladi disclosed that he was aware that all the Councils had finished the first phase of projects and another round of execution is already ongoing at various Councils for the benefits of citizens.
According to the ALGON Boss, they have all resolved that every project embarked on must be allotted the needed resources to complete it, as the era of incomplete or abandoned projects is over, adding that projects have now been divided into phases so as to ensure timely completion.
In a landmark development, the ALGON Boss who invited the Commissioner for the official commissioning of the long abandoned, dilapidated office accommodation, opposite the Council Secretariat, disclosed that the offices which used to house Council Staff, some Federal and State Government agencies, have now been rehabilitated with the provision of furniture and other official tools for the comfort of users.
Earlier in his submission at various sites of projects executed, the Executive Chairman of Baruten, Hon. Issa Jubril disclosed that all the projects executed were requests from the communities, including the provision of water, good health and education, among others.
Among the projects inspected in Baruten were the construction of motorized solar boreholes at Tumbuya and Been Communities, construction of a block of two classrooms with offices at Baruten LGEA school at Fonfon and Old Kiyoru.
Also executed were the installation and drilling of 22 hand pump boreholes across different communities, construction of Primary Heath Centre at Budo – Aiki, renovation and complete over-haul of the Legislative Chambers at the Council’s Secretariat, among others.
Projects inspected in Kaiama included; reconstruction of Halls at GDSS Kaiama and Tasude Secondary Schools, complete fencing with gate at LGEA Primary School, Aboki, construction of two classrooms with an office at Grinchenji, Sabon fili, Gondo Danladi Community School, drilling and installation of transformers at Adena and Wuruma – Koto Communities, drilling and installation of solar powered motorized borehole at the Army location in Kaiama and Army camp in Kemanji, among others.
