KWSG to Partner NES on Managing Resources, Clean Environment
The Kwara State Government has expressed its commitment to partnering the Nigeria Environmental Society (NES) on managing resources and a clean environment for the betterment of the state and Nigeria at large.
The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade made the commitment at a meeting held in his office with the Nigeria Environmental Society, Kwara State Chapter.
Lade appreciated members of the Nigeria Environmental Society, Kwara State Chapter, on behalf of the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
He described the state government as a sailor government that is ready to welcome collaboration and supports that will further compliment the present administration’s efforts to ensure vitalization of water Wash programmes in the state.
The Commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment on its set agenda to bring different innovations and new development in the water sector as part of its efforts to power waterworks with solar energy in the 2024 budget.
“The Kwara State Government is doing everything humanly possible to come up with laws and policies that will guide borehole drilling in the state in order to avoid natural disaster in the future”, Lade said.
The door of partnership with the state government, according to him, is 100 per cent open and ready to support potential and willing partners.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Environmental Society, Kwara State Chapter, Dr. Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who gave a brief history of the association, said that it was created in 1985 with the objectives to help in advocacies by educating, enlightening and informing the public on how best to manage the environment and provide good water supply for the people.
Olanrewaju noted that the purpose of the visit was to synergise with the Ministry and other stakeholders to have robust interaction on
how to have a free, clean environment and avoid natural disaster in the state and Nigeria as a whole.
He explained that other states have been enjoying different benefits from the association, emphasizing that this was the first time of bringing such a programme to Kwara State.
Olanrewaju appealed to the state government to key into the programme for enormous benefits that might accrued from it for the betterment of all.
A member of the Nigeria Environmental Society and Head of Department of Geography, University of Ilorin , Dr. Orire Ismail said that a healthy environment is a healthy nation, adding that the aims of the formation of the association is to manage man and his environment.
