Late Oba Adekunle Aromolaran

The Late Paramount Ruler of Ijesa Land, His imperial Majesty Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II has been scheduled to be laid to rest on 14th and 15th December 2024

This reaffirmation is contained in a statement issued by the Owa In Council/The Agba Ijesas at ilesha osun state and made available to journalists in Ilesha.

According to Owa In Council, led by RHC Bola Orolugbagbe the Odole Owa of Ijeshaland, the Obaodo of Ijeshaland RHC Adebusi James Gbadamosi and the Lejoka of ijeshaland RHC Ojo Omoniyi Ogunyemo, the contributions of the late Oba attracted development to Nigeria academia thereby bringing education to the scholars.

The first son of the late Oba, Prince Adeola Aromolaran said at the age of 29, the late Oba published his first tittle on economics used by west Africa, Nigeria and other African countries within office in Sierra Leone and Ghana where he served as an undergraduate of Fourah Bay College in the 80s.

He maintained that the late Oba also published other economic books that were used by students across West Africa.

Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had described the late Monarch as a just man who stood for truth and fairness.

In his condolence message to the family of the late Oba, President Tinubu said the late Oba inspired Nigerians and Africa at large with his books and publications as well as his commitment to fairness and justice.

The President noted that late Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II was a great adherent to the values of Yoruba culture and African tradition, which defined his 42-year reign as king and 40th Owa Obokun.

Similarly, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has also eulogized the late Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II for living an exemplary lifestyle.
Atiku Abubakar said the late Oba was more than a father-in-law to him but a symbol of courage, boldness, and discipline emblematic of the Ijesha people.

Prince Adeola thanked the traditional chiefs, the Owa-In-Council, who stood firm and abide by legacies of the late king by gracefully observing 90days mourning and fixing the date for final burial.

He added that the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has constituted a committee to oversee the burial, urging all critical stakeholders including all ijesa traditional rulers, Owa-In-Council and all Ijesa sons and daughters at home and indisaporal to respect and honour the date.

The late Monarch was the 40th Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland having ascended the throne in 1982 and according to the history of Yorubaland, owa-obokun literarily meaning (He who fetch the sea water) when his father the great Oduduwa of Yorubaland became blind.
