Ahead of the forthcoming local government election in Kwara State, the federal government has been advised to embark on legislation that will accelerate the process of providing adequate funding of the third-tier of government.

A Pharmacist and Social Entrepreneur, Alhaji Yakubu Layi Gobir, stated this while speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Monday as part of preparation for the local government polls in the state.

He also has called on the people of the state to come out enmass and participate in the exercise stating that, “This is the only way electorates can have a say in governance and development of the grassroot

He also urged the voters to shun all acts of thuggery, hooligalism and ballot snatching.

Gobir expressed concern over the high level of neglect at the grassroots stressing that “It is through participation and voting for the right candidate that development would take place at the third-tier of government.”

He however commended the state electoral umpire and the state government for creating an enabling environment for all political parties and candidates that are participating in the exercise.

Gobir who is also the Waziri Kasar Hausa further enjoined the people of the state to vote enmass for all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) particularly the chairmanship candidate of the party in Ilorin East local government, Engr Abdulmumeen Lah.

He therefore appealed to successful candidates that emerge winners in the local government poll to take the issue of local government development as key in their agenda .
