Speaking with newsmen at the venue of the coalition centre in
Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, the Zonal Chairman of the Club, Ln Asiwaju ‎Oyedeji Olajubu explained that the gesture became necessary because of the need to extend hand of love and care to fellow citizens in distress, adding that the trauma the victims of the disaster are going through could only be imagined.

He said what has happened to the people of Markudi and its envrons is a wake up call to the National Emergency Management Agency ‎to be more pro-active, and aside from giving early warning signals about an impending disaster, they should also provide alternative accommodation
and all the necessary assistance to victims of disaster.

The cash and other relief materials were ‎donated by all the clubs in Ekiti axis, comprised of Ado Metropolitan Lions Club, Ado Central, Ido Lions and Centennial Lions Club in Afe Babalola University.

Citing the case of hurricane irma which is currently ravaging some parts of the United states of America, Olajubu said, “some Nigerians are more concerned about the situation in America and they are rallying support for them, rather than paying attention and rallying support for the flood victims in Benue and Kogi states.

It is the tradition of the Lions Club International to identify where there‎ is need and render service, we want to tell our brothers and sisters in Makurdi that they are not alone in this their hour of critical need”, Olajubu said.
