An Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, Jos, Plateau State, has sentenced a 22year-old trader, Zakare Abdulrahman, three years jail-term for impregnating a 14-year-old minor.

Abdulrahman, 22, who was arraigned on a charge of rape, pleaded guilty to the charge.

“I am sorry for what I had done and I promise not to do it again, have mercy on me,’’ he said.

The judge, Yahaya Mohammed, convicted Abdulrahman to three years imprisonment without any option of fine.

Earlier, the convict had pleaded guilty to the charge which violates Section 283 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor, Insp. E. Yakubu, told the court that the incident was reported at Area Command Police Station on Dec. 12, 2017 by the victim’s father, one Ibrahim Sarki of New Layout, Bukuru.

Yakubu said that the victim, a 14-year-old girl, complained of headaches frequently to her parent.

“When she was taken to the hospital for treatment, the doctor confirmed that she was eight weeks’ pregnant,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that the victim told her father that the accused usually lured her to a place to have sexual intercourse with her.

He said the accused took advantage of a minor who is not capable of giving a valid consent to sexual intercourse.
