The Minister of Defence, Gen. Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd), has disclosed that the Nigerian Air Force remains an integral component in the fight against terrorism and providing aids to civil authority across the country.
He noted that NAF ‘s ability to conduct operations in support of government ministries, department and agencies at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic is highly remarkable, stressing that, “Your operations have saved countless lives and augmented government efforts to reach out vulnerable groups nationwide. This minister stated this while commissioning the newly constructed blocks for married officers accomodation and transit accomodation for officers and commissioned officers of the Nigerian Air Force.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Babangida Hussaini, the minister maintained that, “I am aware that the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force under the present Chief of Air Staff, Air Mashal Sadique Abubakar is committed to providing decent accomodation for NAF personnel as evident in the establishment of the NAF base Asokoro where we are presently conducting this ceremony. “
According to him, “This year has been replete with challenges both in terms of insecurity and the global COVID-19 pandemic . I want to salute the courage and resilience of all officers, airmen and airwomen of the Nigerian Air Force for your professionalism and commitment to duty at this difficult time. “The impact of your operational successes in all theatres of operations are indeed commendable. Also, the medical outreaches by the Nigerian Air Force have made a tremendous impact on the benefitting communities.
“I commend the Chief of the Air Staff for his efforts towards improving the living standards of personnel and the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Air Force. He however commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his unflinching support to the Nigerian Air Force and indeed the entire Armed Forces adding that, “the achievements so far recorded could not have been possible without the unwavering support of Mr. President. “
