Minister gives new Defence College boss marching order

Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) has charged the newly appointed Commandant National Defence College, Rear Admiral Murtala Bashir to discharge the herculean task of moving the college to a higher pedestal of reckoning
globally.

Magashi gave the charge during a courtesy call on him at the Ministry of Defence by the new Commandant, said, the Minister’s Spokesman, Mohammad Abdulkadri, in a statement issued on Thursday.

He challenged the Commandant to justify his new appointment by working very hard to improve on the enviable pedigree of academic excellence and high professional trainings for which the college is well known regionally.

While setting new agenda to lift up the school, the Defence Minister who is the Chairman Governing Board of the NDC pledged support towards timely completion of the College’s Permanent site, located at Piwoyi, Abuja.

He also welcomed the the new idea for the award of Masters Degree Certificate to the participants by the institution as proposed by the new Commandant which he said should be brought to the Board for consideration.

Among specific areas of agenda setting for the new Commandant by the Defence Minister centered on the need to sustain the enviable records of satisfying the yawnings and aspirations for quality mentoring by the Foreign Participants who are ever desirous of attending the College.

The new NDC Commandant Rear Admiral Murtala Bashir thanked the Minister for granting him the desired audience to intimate him of his assumption of duty and to place before him arrays of robust plans and proposals to move the College to the next level.

The Commandant who was accompanied by the College Secretary, Air Vice Marshal BLP Keenam and Director Coordination Brigadier General EF Oyinlola sought the permission of the Minister for the forthcoming retreat and proposals to engender new courses as well as his endorsement for the activities lined up for the upcoming 30th anniversary of the College by March this year.

Other projections by the new Commandant were tabled before the Minister and discussed appropriately inline with the mandate of the college.

Rear Admiral Murtala Mormoni Bashir, a member of 38 Regular Course of the NDA who is above Water Water Warfare specialist and commissioned on 21st September 1991, assumed the Command of his new Area of Responsibility, AoR, last week on the 13th January.

Rear Admiral Bashir who attended several Military and Civil courses and whose last appointment was Commandant Naval War College , Calabar is the 19th NDC boss in the anals of the Institution which was formally known at inception about thirty years ago as National War College.
