The Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ikorodu has approved three laboratories abroad for the DNA test of the late singer Mohbad’s son, Liam. The court sanctioned one laboratory in the United States and two in the United Kingdom to carry out the tests.
Oladayo Ogungbe, counsel to Mohbad’s father, announced that all parties involved will be present during the collection of samples. The singer’s widow, Wunmi, and his father, Joseph Aloba, each selected one laboratory, while the court chose an independent laboratory to ensure neutrality.
The development follows a request by Mohbad’s father for a DNA test to establish paternity, amid circumstances surrounding the singer’s death in September 2023 at his residence. The tests aim to confirm Liam’s parentage conclusively.
Ogungbe explained that the court-appointed laboratories will conduct the DNA tests under strict supervision, with welfare officers monitoring the process to guarantee fairness and transparency.
The matter has been adjourned to April 7, 2026, for the collection of samples. The court emphasized that the presence of all stakeholders will help prevent disputes and ensure the integrity of the results.
