A housewife, Mariam AbdulLateef of number 144, Cemetery Road, Irewolede Area, Ilorin on Wednesday seek to divorce her, AbdulLateef Tahjudeen, over lack of sex.

Mariam told an Ilorin Area court that she got married to her husband in 2016, in accordance with Islamic law and the marriage is blessed with seven-year old child.

She, however, lamented that Tahjudeen about seven yeara ago had stopped performing his responsibility, saying, “he abandoned our matrimonial bed since I gave birth to our daughter”.

“He does not even sleep in the same room nor touches me and any time I ask for his attention, he tells me to leave his house whenever I am tired of the marriage”.

The wife cried and pleaded with the court to dissolve the marriage, to enable other men have access to her, so that she could remarry.

“My husband have been tormenting me with accusations that I am having extra marital affairs and yet did not touch me, which is affecting my state of mind,” she pleaded.

The husband told the court that he had health challenges and had been trying hard to cure the illness that caused his inability to satisfy his wife.

He said that he still loves his wife dearly and appreciate all her patience and perseverance, saying that he is not willing to divorce her.

The Presiding Judge, Mr Hammad Ajumonbi, said that sex is one of the important things in marriage and once one party is starved, it should not be taken with levity.

Ajumonbi however advised the wife to exercise more patience and told the husband to try and settle the issue between them amicably.

The court adjourned the case until Feb. 20, for report of settlement.
