NAFEST 2020: Contingents undergoing COVID-19 tests before participation – Official

Mr Dan Manjang, Chairman, Publicity Committee of the 2020 edition of the National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST) holding in Jos, Plateau, says the contingents are undergoing tests for COVID-19 before participating in the festival.

Manjang, who is also the State Commissioner of Information and Communication, disclosed this to ROYAL NEWS on Sunday in Jos, explaining that the tests were being conducted to avoid a spread of the virus during the festival.

ROYAL NEWS reports that the week long festival starts on Nov. 22 and end on Nov. 28.

“If you go to Government Technical College, Bukuru, where some of the contingents are lodged, you will see that a lot of testing has been going on there.

“Temperatures of participants are taken and testing for COVID-19 is also carried out to make sure that we play safe in this COVID-19 period.

“If any of the participants is confirmed positive of the virus, the person will be isolated and other procedures will follow.

“We have our isolation and treatment centres where confirmed cases will be taken to.

“We, however, pray that nothing of that sort happens,” he said.

The chairman also said that arrangements for the event were 80 per cent completed as at Sunday morning.

He said that almost everything had been put in place, adding that all committees set up for the conduct of the festival were working assiduously to ensure that the few things left were fixed in time.
According to him, the security, health and other committees have been working to ensure that the event is hitch-free.

Manjang also said that security agencies had been mobilised to ensure that the event took place under a peaceful atmosphere.

“The chairman of the security committee who is the Plateau Permanent Secretary for Security, has assured us that nothing is left to chance as far as security is concerned.

“Security personnel have been stationed at all the venues, while flash points that are prone to breach of law and order are under strict surveillance.

“Publicity is also in top gear; we are doing a live broadcast of this event. The social media is already agog with the posting of day-by-day events in the festival,” he said.

He said that the grand performance of the festival would commence Sunday by 4 p.m. at Langfield Leisure Park, Jos.

He confirmed that Ekiti and Zamfara contingents had arrived in Jos on Saturday, and that more states were expected to arrive on Sunday before the commencement of the grand performance.
