The Federal Government has responded to calls for an investigation into alleged child sexual abuse at a daycare centre operated by singer Simi’s mother, following online controversies and renewed scrutiny of old social media posts.
The issue resurfaced after Simi’s previous posts on X (formerly Twitter) circulated online amid a separate rape allegation by a TikTok user identified as Mirabel. Some users linked old comments about her experience with children at her mother’s daycare to allegations of inappropriate intent.
Simi had earlier sparked debate after expressing concerns about rising sexual assault cases in Nigeria and suggesting harsher punishment for rapists, including castration. Her remarks triggered an online exchange with critics who opposed her stance.
Reacting to public calls for action, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) assured Nigerians that it would investigate any credible claims of child sexual abuse or misconduct. The agency urged victims or individuals with evidence to submit information confidentially.
NAPTIP encouraged the public to share factual information through its official channels, including direct messages or email at info@naptip.gov.ng, reaffirming its commitment to addressing legitimate concerns.
