The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the deployment of Umar Ahmed-Chuso as the state’s 30th Commissioner of Police.
Ahmed-Chuso succeeds Shetima Mohammed, who has been reassigned to the Police Staff College in Jos as Deputy Commandant on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police.
In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, Rahman Nansel, said the new commissioner brings extensive operational and administrative experience to his role. He added that Ahmed-Chuso has a strong record of professional service within the Nigeria Police Force.
Nansel said the commissioner has called for sustained cooperation from residents to support ongoing efforts to curb crime and improve public safety across the state.
A native of Sokoto South Local Government Area, Ahmed-Chuso holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He joined the police on June 10, 1994, as a Cadet ASP and trained at the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano.
Throughout his career, he has held several strategic positions, including Deputy Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos; Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations and CID in Kano; and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Delta State.
He has also served as Divisional Police Officer in multiple commands and was the pioneer Area Commander of Argungu in Kebbi State. His postings include the Force CID (Interpol) Abuja, as well as roles such as Divisional Crime Officer, Officer-in-Charge of Pay, and Directing Staff at the Police College, Kaduna.
Ahmed-Chuso has attended numerous professional courses locally and internationally, including training in tactical leadership, citizenship and leadership development, higher military strategy at the Army War College in Abuja, and a human rights protection programme at Texas Southern University, Houston. He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Police Studies.
According to the statement, the commissioner appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups and religious bodies to provide timely information that can help prevent crime and enable swift police response.
He assured residents of the Command’s renewed commitment to safeguarding lives and property and maintaining peace across Nasarawa State.
