National Youth Council President, Sukubo, 2 others Suspended over alleged partisan politics
The President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Sukubo Saraigbe Sukubo has been placed on immediate suspension by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the body.
Sukubo is suspended along with his Deputy, Comrade Innocent Nduanya and the Secretary General, Comrade Suleiman Abubakar Abutu for allegedly dragging the organization into partisan politics.
Their suspension said to take immediate effect was announced on Monday by the National Public Relations Officer of the Council, Comrade Dotun Omoleye at a world press conference held at the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abuja.
Amongst others, the three suspended officers were accused of engaging in self-serving activities which have allegedly made mockery of the Constitution of the organization.
They were accused of engaging in unlawful activities that have eroded the core value of the body as well as aims and objectives of its founders.
Specifically at the world press conference, the suspended three principal officers were said to have engaged in illegal review of the Constitution of the council without recourse to the National Management Committee and without obtaining the approval of the national congress and board of trustees.
Sukubo was said to have illegally initiated and completed a supposed review of the Constitution of the Council in flagrant disobedience to the provisions of the Constitution.
At the crowded press conference, the suspended officers were also accused of forging the signatures of some persons in the process of filing the illegally reviewed Constitution with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
According to the Conveners of the press conference, the activities of the suspended officers are now being investigated by police operatives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Sukubo and the two suspended men were also accused of unilaterally picking and sending certain members to represent the Council in national and international engagement without consulting or obtaining the approval of the National Executive Committee, thereby undermining the decision making process of the NEC and the Council.
Besides, they were also said to have exchanged correspondences in the name of the Council with state governments and government agencies without duliy informing and seeking consent of the Vice Presidents while also making diaspora appointments and extending tenure of office of some state chairmen without consulting NEC.
They therefore appealed to the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the board of trustees led by Ambassador Dickson Akoh, heads of voluntary youth councils and 36 state chapters including Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other stakeholders to join in the struggle to reposition the body and mobilize young Nigerians into the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
The text of the world press statement was signed by the National Public Relations, Comrade Dotun Omoleye, National vice president north central, comrade akosile Assmola and the national legal officed, Basil Garba on behalf of other NEC members.
However, all efforts to get reactions of the suspended President on the issues raised against him were unsuccessful as he refused to pick several calls put to his cell phone and also did not respond to request messages sent to him on phone
