NDLEA Kano Cracks Down on Drugs, Arrests 56 Suspects

Date:

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has dismantled multiple drug joints across Kano State, arresting 56 suspects during a three-day operation.

The agency’s spokesperson, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, disclosed the development on Wednesday, quoting the State Commander, Mr. Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal, who said the raids were part of “Operation Ramadan Mubarak”, aimed at ensuring a safe and drug-free Kano during and after the period.

Between February 6 and February 8, NDLEA operatives targeted notorious drug locations in Kofar Mata, Fagge, Kasuwar Rimi, Medile, Badawa, and Sabon Gari, as well as other areas within and outside the Kano metropolis, to dismantle illegal drug distribution points.

“The operation was a continuation of earlier enforcement efforts, designed to disrupt drug distribution channels and restore safety to neighbourhoods affected by drug-related activities,” Muhammad-Maigatari said.

During the raids, authorities recovered various illicit substances, including cannabis sativa, Exol-5, diazepam, and pregabalin, among other controlled drugs. The seizures represent a significant blow to local drug supply networks and demonstrate the command’s resolve to rid communities of illicit drugs.

Yahaya-Lawal also revealed that one suspect, 30-year-old Yunusa Yasin of Badawa, is linked to a homicide case from five years ago and has been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

The commander reaffirmed NDLEA Kano’s commitment to achieving a drug-free state, in line with the vision of the agency’s chairman and CEO, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba-Marwa, and urged the public to provide information on drug-related activities to help safeguard communities.
