Niger Gov’s Wife Decries Low Immunisation Indices

The wife of Niger State Governor, Dr Amina Bello, has described as appalling, the 19% immunisation coverage in the state.

Dr Bello bemoaned the statistics while receiving the report of the non governmental organisations that carried immunisation i n Taxa and Gurara local government areas in the state.

Led by Women Advocates for Vaccine Access, WAVA, in collaboration with Raise Foundation and Vaccine Network,all NGOs, the wife of the governor appealed to all mothers and other stakeholders to ensure the vaccination of their children in order to ward off killer diseases prevalent among children.

In a programme tagged ‘ celebrating women of influence: at the premises of Raise Foundation in Minna, Niger state capital, Dr Bello lauded the women of influence, who took it upon themselves to mobilise women and traditional rulers who participated in the vaccination exercise in the two council areas.

In her good will message, Dr(Mrs) Chizoba, who represented WAVA at the occasion, noted that the project, women of influence ,was a way of using able,capable and passionate women in the community to increase immunisation coverage having found out the low performance in their community..

Corroborating Chizoba, Mrs China Of for, of the Vaccine Network, pleaded with the women of influence, to collaborate with health workers in their communities for improved immunisation in their areas.

Highlight of the event was donation of sewing machine, grinding machine, cash donation and award of certificates to outstanding women and men of influence in the two local government areas of Niger state.
