Nigerian Legion appeal to Kwara Gov for land for members to farmThe Nigerian Legion and Corps of Commissionaires, Kwara State Command has appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to allocate land to the legion for its members to engage in farming activities.

The legion made the call on Friday in a statement Deputy Corps Commander (DCC), Omolale Olusegun in Ilorin.

Omolale, who is also the Director Human Resources and Public Relations for the legion, called on the governor to provide the legion with office accommodation equipped with computers and other office furniture.

The DCC listed the functions of the legion to include school crimes prevention, disaster management, and surveillance at private and public infrastructure.

Others he said were humanitarian services and empowerment programme for the widows and dependents of the fallen heroes and promotion of welfare of ex-servicemen.

“Our functions include establishment and operation of interstate commercial transport services along with Nigerian Legion and employment opportunity for our members and youths in agricultural schemes,” he said.

Omolale therefore called on the state government to use members of the Nigeria Legion Security Guard Service in schools and public buildings and institutions.

“We request for monthly subvention/stipends from Kwara State, Local Government Councils to sustain the statutory mission and vision of the Nigeria Legion in the State.

“We humbly request for two units of Toyota Hilux double cabin and two units of 14-seater Toyota Hiace bus for effective security operational activities and supervision of branches in the 16 LGA in Kwara State especially during periodical screening exercise,” Omolale added.

The DCC begged Gov AbdulRazaq to for the assistance, lamented that for over 40 years, successive governments have abandoned the legion in Kwara.

“We are grateful for inviting leadership of the Nigerian Legion in persons of Brig Gen Akano Aliyu (Rtd) and State Commandant of Corps of Commissionaire, Corps Commander, Prof Olasehinde Peter to participate in the Security Submit organized by the State Government.

“This is strong testimony that your Excellency care for the Security of the citizens of State of Harmony,” he said.
