Nigerian Legion Corps of Commissionaires seeks collaboration with security agencies to tackle insurgency
The Deputy Commandant-General of the Nigerian Legion, Corps of Commissionaires, retired Brig-Gen Buba Shaljaba has said that the Legion was ready to collaborate with other security agencies in the country to tackle insecurity.
The Commandant-General made this known in a statement by Kwara Commandant of the Corps, Dr Omolale Olusegun Ojo on Monday in Ilorin.
Omolale quoted the National Coordinating Commandant-General as saying this in his address at
Effurun-Warri, Delta State on Saturday at a Security Training Conference for members of the Nigerian Legion, Corps of Commissionaires.
The training conference has its title; “Strategies for Combating Emerging Security Challenges in Nigeria”.
“We are deeply touched by the unfortunate attacks and killings of innocent people across the country, where the burden to cater for dependents is growing at a geometrical progression.
“What is required now is to join hands together with other security bodies towards fighting all manner of attacks on our citizens.
“By so doing, we will be protecting our territorial integrity and sovereignty as a nation,” the CG said.
Shaljaba pointed out that the future of the Corps demands resourcefulness, dedication, cooperation, hard work, teamwork, discipline, respect, and obedience to the established laws.
The Commandant General, therefore, charged officers and men of the Legion to chart the way forward for the effective running of the Corps with a result-oriented perspective using training as the fulcrum towards achieving the corps’ policies and objectives.
He stressed the need to create new paths, adding that the future of the Corps demands new ways.
“You people are the ones to do that and there can never be a better time than now. You are the one in charge to handle such responsibilities,” he said.
Shaljaba declared that it was the responsibility of the corps to cater for all categories of dependents, such as widows, orphans, victims of general neglect, insurgency, and all manner of attacks that have rendered many homeless and made them refugees in their own country.
“We are supposed to train and empower such victims to establish their own small-scale businesses,” the Commandant-general said.
He expressed the need to create educational opportunities for the present generation of the Corps and their dependents to sail through the tides and storms of life.
“It is my considered opinion that creating deliberate schemes will expand the horizons of these dependents that are walking the streets in search of what to do to earn daily bread.
“This leadership of the Nigerian Legion Corps of Commissionaire under my watch is out to create and establish a new breed of entrepreneurs from various disciplines and trades with the increasing number of them that will automatically become net contributors to the national
economy.
“I am sure you are aware that we have the mandate to provide the right education, vocational skills, and linkages for the establishment of large, medium, and small scale businesses for the benefit of our dependents,” he said.
According to him, the Nigerian Legion Corps of Commissionaire has become the unavoidable hub of great, extraordinary, and creative minds touching humanity with quality services.
This, the Commandant-General said was a result of the fact that the majority of Nigerians were living in a complex world, where things get rough, tough, complicated, difficult, and twisted.
The Kwara Commandant, Dr Olusegun Omolale said the training was organised by Delta State Command led by Corps Commander Wuraola Olusegun in collaboration with the Institute for Industrial Security (NIIS).
The training was attended by officers and men of the corps from Kwara, Akwa Ibom,
Bayelsa, Edo, Cross River Ebonyi, Rivers, and Delta.
Omolale, who moderated the presentation said that three papers were presented at the training.
These, he said were Counter Domestic Terrorism Awareness for Security Professionals by Major Alexander M.E. (rtd), Kidnapping, Hostage Taking, and Negotiation by Commodore (Prof.) Akogun Kunle Olawumi (rtd), Head of Department of Criminology and Security Studies, Chrisland University, Abeokuta and Securing; National Critical Infrastructure, by Mr Akudo Edafe.
He said he led ten of his officers in Kwara to Delta for the training conference.
