Nigerian Legion elects new officials in Kwara
Nigerian Legion, Kwara State Council has elected new leaders that would paddle the affairs of the Unon for the next four years.
The election was conducted under the supervision of the officers of the Ministry of Defense, Abuja and the Kwara State Government in line the provisions of Nigerian Legion Act of 37, 1988.
Nigerian Legion is a union of ex-service men who had meritoriously fought for peace, stability and oneness of the Nigeria as well as defending territorial integrity of the country.
Permanent Secretary Political Cabinet and Social Services in the Governor Office, Ilorin, the Director Political Affairs, Alhaji Abdullahi Okanlawon Taiwo and other Senior Officers, stood in for the Kwara State Government, while Elameje Hassan James and Onuh Ruth Solomon represented the Ministry of Defense in supervising the election.
At the end of the election, Abdulkadir Anigiobi; Ndamagin Tsado and Muhammed Ahmed returned unopposed as State Chairman; Vice Chairman and Treasurer of the Legion respectively.
James appreciated members of the Legion for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner especially during the exercise.
“The purpose why we are conduct the election is a tradition of the Legion guided by the Nigerian Legion Act of No 37 of 1988. Honourable Minister is very happy and sent his goodwill message that they should conduct themselves well and be peaceful in all their activities. He feels their pains and promised to do everything possible to alleviate their sufferings,” he said.
James advised the newly elected officials to justify the confidence reposed in them by ensuring the well-being of the members.
Barrister Grillo, for her part, praised the democratic process through which the election was conducted.
The permanent secretary said the state government involvement was in line with the provisions of Nigerian Legion Act, assuring them that the state government would continue to support to the Legion.
“The conduct of this election is the responsibility of the state government. That is why we are involved because the Nigerian Legion Act stipulates that at the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing executive, the state government should desolve them and take the procedure to conduct the new election.”
Grillo advised members of the Legion to support the new leadership in moving the Union forward.
Anigiobi who spoke on behalf of the newly elected officials, appreciated members of the Legion for the confidence reposed in them and promised not to disappoint them.
He also promised to work harmoniously with the state government and other relevant stakeholders so as to move the Union forward.
