Nigerians should be given equal opportunities for job— Ndume

Disturbed by the increasing rate at which jobs are allegedly being fixed for the children and relatives of influential Nigerians, especially the political office holders at the detriment of the less privileged ones, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume representing Borno South senatorial district has called for a punitive measure against such attitude.

Specifically, the former Senate Leader appealed to the federal government under President  Muhammadu Buhari to henceforth discourage the act by ensuring that it is criminalised to serve as deterrent to the “very important people”, who often engage in it at all levels of government.

Ndume, who spoke with newsmen in Abuja, maintained that it is wrong to deny eligible applicants right to employment as a result  of social status.

He therefore said the government should as a matter of fact investigate every reported cases of job fixing for privileged children at the expense of eligible ones while those found guilty should be tried in competent court of law.

The chairman, Senate Committee on Army, said every eligible Nigerian job seeker should be given equal opportunity irrespective of their social status.

Ndume, who disclosed that he once refused to use his status in job fixing for one of his daughters in the past, said he rose to become somebody in life without knowing anybody.

He said: “Giving available jobs to children of those in positions of power at the expense of qualified ones is very wrong and should be discontinued.

“This country will not have peace until sons and daughters of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody”.
