NITT Council Chairman mourns Emir Idris departure
The Chairman, Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, Zaria, Olorogun John Onojeharho has described the death of the Emir of Zazzau Alhaji (Dr) Shehu Idris, CFR as a great loss to both the people of the Emirate Council and Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement he personally issued on behalf of himself and the Governing Council of the Institute . According to the Council Chairman, the Late Emir Idris was a pillar of support to the NITT, which is the apex transport and logistics management development institute in Nigeria and West Africa.
“He donated to the Federal government of Nigeria the land on which the Institute was built and had pledged his willingness to grant more lands. He gave the Council maximum cooperation and was always ready to attend to any issue brought to his attention.
“The late Emir’s death is also a personal loss to me as the Emir treated me like his biological son each time I visited his palace.
“Even at the age of 84, Late Emir Idris was a realist with a prodigious energy. A man of peace and a rare patriot, an accomplished gentleman and consummate administrator who mounted the throne of his forefathers 45 years ago, the monarch played a leading role in ensuring peace, unity and tolerance amongst the diverse tendencies that co-habit his domain and even beyond.
“A detribalized Nigerian and leader, the Emir of Zazzau built bridges across ethnic, religious and socio-cultural divides. As this father of the nation takes a sad but glorious exit from human existence, the legacy he so faithfully espoused and lived, would remain evergreen in our memories.
The Governing Council chairman therefore prayed God to grant the soul of late Emir Idris’ a well-merited repose in His bosom and assured both the royal household and the people of Zazzau Emirate Council the expression of the Council’s deepest condolences.
