NO cause for panic in Kwara— Commissioner

The Commissioner for Communications in Kwara State, Mrs. Adenike Harriet Afolabi-Oshatimehin, has assured residents of the state that there is no cause to panic as the situation is improving through the efforts of stakeholders.

She also restated the commitment of the state government towards providing adequate protection of their lives and property, irrespective of wherever they might be residing.

Afolabi-Oshatimehin gave this assurance in a statement issued over the weekend against acts of vandalism carried out by some people believed to be criminals in Ilorin, the State Capital.

The Commissioner said that the despicable acts do not reflect the character of the average Kwaran, advising residents to remain indoor while the curfew lasted.

She also explained that the 24-hour curfew in Ilorin announced by the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was not to inflict pains on the peace loving people of the state, but to halt the tide of stealing.

Afolabi-Oshatimehin further emphasized further that the 24-hour curfew imposed remains in force until further notice, adding that essential workers are, however, exempted from the curfew.

She added that the resolve of the state government, in conjunction with the security agencies in the state, would not be deterred in ensuring that peace returns to the state.

“The wanton theft of goods and wares of business outfits by the criminals was despicable and reprehensible”, Afolabi-Oshatimehin stated.

“ It is, however, note worthy that with combined efforts of the security agencies in the state, the acts of vandalism have been brought under control”, she added.

The Commissioner also maintained that the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration would not be deterred in ensuing that the culprits face the consequences of their actions in the courts of law.

Afolabi- Oshatimehin therefore commended religious and opinion leaders as well as the generality of the people of the state for condemning the acts of vandalism by the hoodlums.
