No plan to join APC ---- Babangida

Aliyu Mu’azu Babangida

By Hammed Salawu, Minna
Former Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has denied joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The ex-governor challenged the ruling APC that it will take decades for the party to match-up the records of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Servant Leadership Forum in Minna, Aliyu said that his precedence in governance has some Chieftains in APC to lobby him to join the party.
ROYAL NEWS reports that a Non Governmental Organisation, the Servant Leadership Forum was also floated at the event.
He said that the dividends of his administration in Niger state cannot be matched as no ward or local government will say that they were not touched in any way.
The former Governor told journalists that “People have been telling us everywhere we go that the government of PDP is the best the country has ever had. Government is actually about security, development and the provision of basic amenities.”
He further declared that he is not nursing any ambition of joining the APC saying “I am a die-hard PDP member who will remain in the party despite the challenges.
“It is something of a pride to hear rumours that I have joined the APC. That means they are indirectly lobbying me to join APC. When I had the chance to join the APC I did not and I stand by my decision. I am not in APC and will not be in APC.
“I am not nursing an ambition to join APC. I am not decamping to APC. I am not a selfish politician. I remain a member of the PDP no matter how difficult or hard it may be for the party.”
Aliyu also known as the chief servant further disclosed that those who defected to the APC were paid to decamp adding that when they do not get what they are looking for, they will return to PDP.
“We are not in government and we cannot pay money for people to come back to PDP. Those who have been paid money to decamp would return soon. If you see that something is wrong and you cannot wait to correct it and you keep running away, no matter where you go, you will continue to run away”, he added.
Aliyu said that the Servant Leadership Forum is a non-partisan forum that comprises of people who have served from 2007 to 2015 stating that the forum would position the state for trained, responsible and principled leadership.
