A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), and former acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, has disclosed that lack of respect for the law and impunity among others are factors that led no fewer than five Governors and 20 serving senators as well as other gladiators to dump the party in 2014.

He added that many of those factors such as marginalisation, disrespect for rule of law and impunity that nesecitated the journey into forming alliance with other political parties to form the APC are currently making waves in the APC despite serious complaints by members.

Baraje stated this in Ilorin the Kwara State capital while speaking with journalists. He stressed that leaders of the nPDP will meet with the national leadership of the APC on Monday (tomorrow), ROYAL NEWS reports.

The APC chieftain who expressed displeasure over the proliferation of parallel congresses on Saturday noted that, “I counted no fewer than 21 states where parallel congresses was held and as bad as PDP was then, we never had it so bad while in PDP. This is so dangerous to our internal democracy and survival of our party.”

”What really happened in Kwara State during the state congress was a repetition of what had happened in the past, therefore, history is repeating itself but we are disturbed at all because it is the outcome of the forthcoming elections that will determine the superior.”

Speaking on the forthcoming 2019 elections, Baraje stated that, “We  in the APC are desirous that President Muhammadu Buhari comes back and contest and it is also our interest  that we win the presidential election and that was what informed our decision to write the letter our members.

”But the APC leaders should understand the fact once members’ interest could no longer be protected, there is every tendency that such aggrieved members would find a better alternatives that will suit their desires.”

He further maintained that it was the same lack of rule of law and flagrant disobedience to constituted authority and disdain as reflected in the APC’s government that led to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to disregard the invitation of the leadership of National Assembly.

”If the National Assembly invites the IGP more than 10 times , it is his duties to respond and honour their invitations. This act is the highest point of corruption which must adequately looked into by the government because anarchy is already knocking at our doors.”
