NURTW National President, 3 others arrested, detained in Abuja

Three other officials are; the General Secretary, Anthony Asogwa Chukudi; Principal Assistant Secretary, Abdulrasak Yemi; and the national trustee, Olayi Odion.

Baruwa was arrested at the NURTW national secretariat in Abuja two days after the NURTW President raised the alarm of an alleged plot by some individuals and groups to stage a protest at the national secretariat located in Garki 2 district of Abuja.

Confirming the arrest on Saturday, the union Deputy President, Isa Ore, while addressing journalists, said, “We were shocked to see policemen in their numbers locking our secretariat without giving any reason.

“Today, Saturday, we are preparing for the inauguration and swearing-in of the newly elected National Administrative Council members, but we just saw police, and they asked us to leave the premises.

“The police said it was an order from the above. I called the FCT Commissioner of Police but he said he was not in town.”
