Speaking with Journalists, Gen Kazaure said he was at the camp to see the condition of infrastructure, but lamented that what he saw was nothing to write home about.

“I have gone round the camp, visited the hostels and other buildings, many of them are dilapidated, they are in bad shapes,” Gen Kazaure added.

According to the DG, it is the duty of State Governments to provide and maintain NYSC camps in their various states.

“It is Constitutional provision, but the State Governments are not doing what the Constitution says, this is very bad,” he added.

Kazaure added that many State Governments have refused to fund the orientation camps in their states.

The DG, who said that some states were doing fine in terms of funding and assisting the camps, appealed to those states that have reneged on thier responsibly to the camp to be up and doing.

“I Dont want to start mentioning names, but I know Kwara State Government has not be funding the camp.

“I will only appeal to those states that have refused or stopped funding camp activities to please take up the responsibility ad stated in the Constitution,” the DG added.

He also assured the State Coordinator that he will look at the challenges she said the camp was facing and will do everything within his power to solve the problems.

Addressing the Corps members earlier, Gen Kazaure advised them to identify with their host community during their primary assignments.

He also advised them to be security conscious at all times, adding; “Dont move alone, always walk in twos and threes and always in your NYSC uniforms”.

The DG admonished the Corps members to always dress decently, reminding them that they were graduates, hence they should dress as one and not like prostitutes.

” In your place of primary assignment, you are expected to execute or initiate a project that will add value to the lives of the people of your host community,”he added.

The DG assured the corps members that NYSC staff will be solidily behind them to make things easy for them during their primary assignments.

Earlier, in her welcome address, NYSC state Coordinator, Mrs Esther Atamenwan informed the DG that a total of 1, 925 corp members comprising of 825 males and 1, 050 females registered for the 2017 Batch ‘A’ (Stream 1) orientation course.

She told the DG that the camp has a lot of challenges, which includes dilapidated buildings/obsolete facilities and bad access road.

Mrs Atamenwan said the camp depends solely on 250KVA generator for its electricity needs as electricity supply from the national grid is erratic.

She also complained of porous and insecurity of the camp ad it has no perimeter fence and inadequate mattresses and bed bunks.

The Coordinator, who said that no financial support was forthcoming from the state government, appealed to the DG to provide one 100KVA generator to complement the 250KVA at the camp.
