Offa Robbery: Alaro Family Raise Alarm Over Alleged Rivalry Between Saraki, AbdulRazaq Families

Date:

The Alaro family of Ilorin has raised concerns over what it described as a growing rivalry between the Saraki family and the AbdulRazaq family, warning that such tensions could threaten the peace and unity of the Ilorin Emirate.

Addressing a press conference in Ilorin on Saturday, on behalf of the family, Alhaji Muritala Saka Alaro, said the situation reflects a “protracted envy” that has evolved into rivalry, urging stakeholders to act in the interest of preserving the Emirate’s heritage and stability.

The family however traced its historical ties to the Saraki lineage, noting that its intervention was rooted in longstanding familial connections and a sense of responsibility to the Emirate.

In its statement, the Alaro family cautioned against attempts to distort history or create divisions for political purposes, stressing that Ilorin’s stability has been built over decades on mutual respect, shared values, and collective responsibility.

It highlighted the contributions of the Abubakar Bukola Saraki family to political development, human capital growth, and economic advancement in Kwara State, describing their legacy as well established.

On the 2018 Offa robbery case, the family warned against linking individuals or families to the incident without judicial backing, noting that the courts have already convicted those responsible.

The statement described any attempt to politicise the case as “dangerous and unfair,” particularly as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The family also called on key stakeholders, including the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), to take a more active role in safeguarding unity and addressing narratives capable of causing division within the Emirate.

As part of its demands, the Alaro family urged Abubakar Bukola Saraki to institute legal action to defend his reputation against alleged defamatory claims.

It further stated that should no action be taken, the family may pursue legal proceedings independently if it is established that such allegations lack merit.

The family concluded by appealing to elders, religious leaders, and the wider Kwara community to prioritise dialogue, truth, and unity, warning that silence in the face of divisive narratives could undermine the long-standing peace of the Ilorin Emirate.

In attendance at the briefing were Alhaja Maryam Alaro, Mamud Alaro, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Alaro and Adama Giwa among others
