Oluwo: The Move Maker

His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adewale

By: Adewale Adetoyese

Even now when elders, priests and politicians seems not to remember our tomorrow as a nation, there lives a front line Yoruba monarch in Osun state who gives his all for youth development and uplift.

Like the popular Yoruba adage that says; A person can be best known in association but not isolation, Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Dr. Abdul-Rosheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I can be better known through association especially with his giant strides about the progress of Nigerian youths.

For those like me who have been following this Move Making Monarch in the media, they would have discovered that he is a man of many parts as he has taken Royalty to the next stage in Yoruba land.

Let me bring to you one of the popular quites of Oba Akanbi stating clearly to current elders of the land to give the youths a free hand to develop the nation; “It is a generational curse for me to claim I am wiser than my children in the 21st century. I’m wiser than my father and my children will be wiser than me. Solomon never saw aeroplane, I saw it. My children may grow to use flying vehicle. And all new things of today will be outdated.”

If the above quote is not enough to state Oluwo’s love for youths and children, he again stated and I quote that; “I am not concerned about the previous communal malice, clashes and wars of dead centuries, my utmost concern is how we’ll live a healthy life and not spark up an unending crisis between our youths. Our elders must burn their old angers because it is a disgusting rag and it should not be handed over to this current generation.”

Let me not talk about his financial, influencial, material, spiritual and commitment to countless youths, children, widows and the vulnerable members of the society which has restored our hope of a greater tomorrow.

My wish

That his youth development activities be strengthen by the government, nongovernmental organisations and wealthy persons.

That other Yoruba monarchs can emulate him and stop being a portrait of themselves on their 1000kg Palace chairs.
