The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Toheeb Ahmed, for allegedly killing his grandmother in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the incident on Tuesday, saying the suspect, a carpenter, was apprehended in the Aiyegbami area of the community after residents raised suspicion about his movements.
According to witnesses, Ahmed had been visiting his grandmother’s house late at night in the days leading up to the incident. A neighbour said he became suspicious after the suspect told him that “Mama is dead” but warned him not to inform anyone.
The neighbour later checked the woman’s room and discovered she had been hacked to death. When Ahmed returned carrying a cutlass, allegedly in the company of another person, residents raised the alarm, leading to his arrest.
Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the motive for the killing.
