One feared dead in Ogun cult clash

One person was feared dead and several others injured as cult war between people suspected to be members of the Eiye Confraternity and rival Aiye confraternity entered its third day on Wednesday.

Three communities in Ijebu Igbo, Ijebu North local government area of the state, namely Ojowo, Oke – Sopen and Atikori, have been turned to theatre of war by Eiye and Aiye members since Monday.

The Nation gathered that the rival groups used guns, axes and other dangerous weapons on each other.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that one person suspected to be a cultist was shot dead on Wednesday morning, while others were wounded when the feuding Eiye and Aiye members clashed in Ojowo area of Ijebu Igbo.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said there were clashes between Eiye and Aiye members in Ijebu – Igbo on Tuesday but denied reports that some people have been killed in the incidents.

Abimbola, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said 17 suspects have been arrested by police in connection with the clashes.
